RMU Commissioning

Lynas Rare Earths

SCOPE / SERVICES PROVIDED

The Lynas Rare Earths RMU commissioning project involved testing and commissioning a new RMU and five transformers. SIGMA’s services included comprehensive testing, Tan Delta (TD) analysis to assess transformer insulation quality, and ensuring optimal transformer performance.

PROJECT EXECUTION

SIGMA executed the project with precision and efficiency. Key activities included:

  • Comprehensive testing and commissioning of the RMU and associated transformers.
  • Conducting TD analysis to ensure the reliability and longevity of transformer insulation.
  • Designing and implementing a new HV switching plan tailored to the site’s specific safety and operational standards, followed by training for the client’s personnel.

CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS

The project presented several challenges, including a tight timeframe, a high-risk work environment, and the need to introduce a new HV switching plan. SIGMA overcame these challenges by:

  • Mobilising a highly skilled team to complete the project within the short timeframe.
  • Implementing stringent safety protocols to mitigate risks in a high-risk work environment with ongoing construction activities.
  • Swiftly designing and executing the HV switching plan while ensuring full compliance with site-specific standards.

OUTCOMES

SIGMA successfully delivered the RMU commissioning project within the client’s tight schedule, addressing safety concerns and operational requirements effectively. This achievement demonstrated SIGMA’s ability to manage complex projects under challenging conditions while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
